Self Rescue in Rafting.

Rafting Self Rescue
In rafting, the safety of each participant is the main thing. Many factors must be considered in conducting this rafting activity. But still need to be realized by each participant that this rafting activity will never escape from all the risks and dangers, either by human factors, equipment and natural factors that accompany it. But you do not need to worry, because it is where lies one of excitement you'll feel when playing with water.

Self rescue or self rescue actions during this rafting activity you need to look right. While you will be guided by an experienced skipper, but the skipper will still have limitations. So the best thing you should do is take action ourselves before the rescue came a rescue team that will help you.

The principle of every action in a rafting rescue is to save yourself before taking action to rescue others, and the rescuer should really be in a safe condition in the rescue action. This is intended to avoid other risks and possible increase in casualties.

The following are terms of what you should do in a self rescue.

Swimmer is a term used by the boater to call someone who was thrown out of the boat while rafting. If you have never experienced it, believe me someday you will experience it (Believe Me !!!). For those of you who do activities arungjeram first time, you do not need to worry.
Many participants who first followed the rafting experience this and do not happen to them even became a story of interest to his colleagues and create impression for the experience. But not a few participants who did not experience in any activity that followed.

The first thing you should do if you have a swimmer is NOT PANIC!

Why do not panic? Because if there was panic, you will not know what you must do for self-rescue actions. Once you can overcome the sense of panic, then you should be aware and know the situation around you.

Swimming technique in the current

a. Defensive swimming position

Defensive swimming is swimming attended a current position in the supine position.
with legs in a state meeting and always be above water to avoid foot
entrapment. Defensive swimming done in the rushing stream with a view
kehilir directional. Use your hands as a regulator of the balance or to go
edge of the river and avoid other obstacles.

Remember ... though nothing happened while you do the defensive swimming and
you begin to enjoy it, but you are not completely truthful in a safe position.
Try to reach the banks of the river and get out of the water. Do not try
to stand even in the shallow area, before you reach the banks of the river
or are at a fairly calm currents.

b.Aggressive swimming position

Aggressive swimming position is swimming against the tide way. do
the current relative calm in the position facing hulu.Tujuannya to
rescue boat approached, avoiding strainers, sieves, undercut, and to
across one side of the river banks of the laindengan fast. Aggressive swimming remember this
only effectively be done on a relatively calm river currents. If you do this
the currents rushing your energy will be wasted and you have still dragged down by
swift currents.

Here are some questions that can help you define the situation
around you when you experienced swimmer and determine what action
you should do

* Are you behind a boat there? (Both boats that threw you or other boat)

If yes, try to approach it from the side of the current relative calm with Aggressive swimming position, do not do from the front because you can be dragged by the boat. If it is near, reach out and hold the boat boat line that existed at tersebut.Tunggu to your colleagues and raise you to pull the boat back by pulling your shoulder wear a life jacket.

Self Rescue in Rafting
If not, do Aggressive defensive swimming or swimming towards the riverbank.
* Are you near there is a rescue team that will throw a throw bag / rope rescue to you?

If yes, take the throw bag / rope rescue is thrown. Hold tightly to the rope, not on the bag strap. Hold while doing defensive swimming techniques, while a rescue team pull you into the river banks.

If not, do Aggressive defensive swimming or swimming towards the riverbank.

* Are there obstacles in your close or obstacle? (Rocks, branches / twigs or fallen tree)

If yes, avoid the area either with Aggressive defensive swimming or swimming.

If not, do Aggressive defensive swimming or swimming towards the riverbank.

* Are you near there under the cut, strainers and sieves?

If yes, avoid the area as quickly as possible with Aggressive swimming.
If not, do Aggressive defensive swimming or swimming towards the riverbank.

* Are you under the overturned boat?

If yes, get out from under the boat by diving towards the upstream or to the side, do not dive in the downstream direction because you will still be trapped under the boat.
If not, do anything aggressive or defensive swimming toward the banks of river swimming.

* Whether you are in the hole / hydraulic (flow swirling)?

If yes, do aggressive swimming by following a round of outward flow toward the downstream, or it can be done with a dive at the center of the vortex in a standing position until the feet touch the bottom of the river, then tolakkan your legs as strong as possible in the downstream direction.

If not, do anything aggressive or defensive swimming toward the banks of river swimming.

Classification of River Difficulty in Rafting

No doubt, rafting has become a very popular activity
compared to other adventure activities. Can be enjoyed rollicking
Serayu River Banjarnegara
Serayu River Banjarnegara - Central Java - Indonesia
regardless of age, social status, education level and one's profession.
When this has been a lot that can be forded rivers and professionally managed by
some rafting operators. They offer various packages of activities with
age levels and abilities of candidates kunsumennya. Starting from the river with
level of difficulty is easy up to the challenges and promising river
Here's an explanation of the difficulty level of the river:

Class I
Difficulty level of the lowest river, with currents that vary from flat (flat)
and relatively quiet until a little simmering in some places. Any obstacles
very little and can be seen clearly. The risk of swimming in the river is very low and
self-rescue is easy to do.

Class II
River with a low difficulty level - medium. Suitable for beginners, with the river
wide and swift enough current, so it is not clear trajectory pengarungan
require prior observations.
Every now and then maneuver the boat needs to be done, but the rocks and rapids medium can
easily bypassed by a trained pengarung. Passengers who flew keluarperahu and drift rarely injured.
Relief assistance is still necessary. River with the difficulty level is very suitable
for basic training rafting.

Class III
River with a medium difficulty level, a cascade which starts irregular
and it is quite difficult and can sink the boat. Maneuvers in the current
swift boats as well as controls on the narrow path is often required. Big rapids rapids
"Strainers" may exist but can be easily avoided. Strong eddies
and the rains are often found, especially on big rivers.
Injury when thrown off the boat and drifting is still very rare; self-rescue
usually be easily done but the relief assistance already required
to avoid possible risks. River with the difficulty level of this
very suitable for family tourism activities or as a recreational alternative because it can
followed by children aged 9 years.

Class IV
River with a medium difficulty level - high. This river has excellent flow
heavy but can still be predicted with exact control of the boat. Technique
rafting on the river is highly dependent on the character of the river itself, because
river with the difficulty level is very diverse and have different though
the same difficulty level.
Big rapids rapids, holes and narrow path that can not be avoided requires
quick maneuverability. Stop for a moment on a quiet little stream which may be required
before starting maneuvers or simply observing the flow to rest. Because the
certain rafting rapids, the danger always threatening.
Risk of injury for passengers who drifted quite large and cause water conditions
self-rescue difficult to do so it needs relief help. Relief assistance
require special training to rescue techniques can be performed by true.
River with the difficulty level is very exciting and promising challenge
more, certainly with the support of adequate equipment, sufficient knowledge and skilled guides.

Class V
River with a high difficulty level and only suitable for a cascade pengarung
already mastered the technique rafting and has considerable experience on the river

Class VI
River belonging to the class V river has rapids and many long
with various obstacles that may cause additional risk for a
rowers. "Drops" or decline tiba2, difficult rapids rapids, "hole" and the cliff
steep that can not be avoided until the waterfall (the waterfall) is common in
this river. Often impassable rapids that streak on a fairly long distance,
thus requiring a high physical endurance. Even if there are whirlpools
calm (Eddies), the numbers are very few and quite difficult to achieve. On a scale of
highest level of difficulty of this river with rapids that have a combination of very
diverse, ranging from the curler, hair, hay stakes, headwall, strainers, under cut, wave train
until the pin holes are very dangerous and deadly.
Thrown out of the boat on the river is very dangerous and action
rescue is often difficult even for someone who is adept though.
Proper equipment, extensive experience and training skills in
rescue is very important.

Class VII
River which has the highest difficulty level. Rafting on the river is hardly
rapids may be because they are unpredictable and very dangerous.
The consequences of an error in river rafting is very heavy and
action rescue almost impossible. River with the difficulty level is only
for a special team that has a high expertise-not to be forded indi-
after often times do rafting on the rivers to severity class V.
Classification of river above the level of difficulty is the difficulty level of the river that
established internationally. However, this classification is still very varied and can
changeable although still on the same river, because of the difficulty level is very
depending on water discharge and river slope. So that at certain times
these rivers has a difficulty level that may increase or may decrease. Therefore, by the instigators behind the class rafting rivers often
plus sign + (plus). For example Serayu river has a difficulty level III +
meaning in a particular river rafting rapids Citarik have an equivalent level of difficulty
with a Class IV river.

Raft Guide

Serayu River Rafting Banjarnegara - Central Java
Serayu River Rafting Banjarnegara - Central Java
A typical raft guide is usually in his or her twenties. However, guides range anywhere from 18 to up in their sixties. The majority of raft guides are seasonal employees.
The job of the guide while on the river is to entertain the guest, and navigate the boat. On smaller rapids guides will turn the boat and go through rapids a certain way to ensure that everyone on the boat gets wet. On larger rapids it is the guides responsibility to keep the raft from flipping in unsafe places, and to keep it on the 'company line' during the rapids. An important aspect of a raft guide is the "Raft Talk". This is the talk that a guide will give to their guests. Every raft guides talk is unique. Most new guides will listen to veteran guide's talks and take bits and pieces of each to create their own. A talk could be a series of jokes to keep the crew laughing, a history lesson on the area, or even just a 'get to know you' type talk; the best talks include all three. On difficult rivers the guide will often extensively brief their crew on the rapids, giving swimming instructions, where a throw bagger might be, and hazards to avoid in the rapid when swimming.

Types of guiding
Oar Guiding is where the guide maneuvers the raft with oars from either the stern or middle of the raft. On multi-day trips it is common to have a center oar rig where clients do not paddle, and where gear is stored. Guides oar guiding will use techniques such as 'walking the oars' through flat sections or 'holding a star' when stern rigged through large waves. Oar Guides generally have more control over their raft than paddle guides, but oar rigged rafts are dangerous when flipping and hard to re-right making them less versatile in big water rafting.
Serayu White Water Rafting
Serayu White Water Rafting
Paddle Guiding is the most common type of high adventure guiding where the guide sits in the stern of the boat with a one bladed guide stick (paddle). Using draws, prys, the guide can influence the direction of the boat, along with using different paddling commands for their crew.
Bow Guiding is where two guides are in the boat, one in the stern and one in the bow. This can be done in a stern rigged boat, or a raft where both guides are paddle guiding. It is usually only done over short stretches of whitewater that require a lot of maneuvering for safe passage. Bow guides use techniques such as 'spearing' through large waves, and bow draws to quickly change the direction of the boat. Unlike stern guides the bow guide will never pry with their paddle, instead they will change the orientation of their hands to maintain a power grip in both directions.

Raft guide pay
A raft guide is paid a small amount per trip, usually near minimum wage in developed countries. The rafting industry is a service industry and tipping is strongly encouraged.

Rafting is an activity that contains a huge risk. In each rafting can be an accident resulting in injury or even death. The cause of the accident could be a variety of participants ranging from negligence, improper equipment, operators are incompetent, and can also be caused by natural causes such as landslides, flooding, fallen trees and so forth. The biggest risk is usually found in independent or private rafting trips, rafting is not carried out under the supervision of rafting operators are competent. Such rafting is usually done by athletes, nature lovers organizations both public and student / student and other community members. The perpetrators of private trips tend to ignore safety standards are feasible, whether it is associated with rafting and technical equipment used.

For rafting which was held by the rafting operators certainly safer than a private trip. This is because each of the rafting operators have an obligation to meet the safety standards that have been defined through legislation. Besides rafting operators also secured a license and under the supervision of the government and relevant parties to the implementation of its operations, so the chances for the occurrence of carelessness could be reduced to a minimum threshold.
Each rafting operators must meet certain qualifications that are in syaratkan in order to guarantee a safe rafting for the community. Application of safety standards and inspection certification also includes the feasibility of infrastructure periodically, either boat or other supporting equipment. Also checked the availability of support equipment, especially survival kit that must exist in a boat in every rafting. Surveillance is also done to ensure the implementation of operational standards and procedures in each activity, such as every pengarungan must include the cost of insurance, then give the participants in understanding / briefing enough about the technical and safety provisions in rafting, rafting each must be preceded by a rescue simulation and so forth.

Increasing the quality of management will make rafting rafting activities are becoming increasingly safe for the general public. Level of expertise and specialization of personnel and management service is a key factor that makes the sport of whitewater rafting are becoming increasingly open to the public can be enjoyed by the layman. Technological development also produces more sophisticated equipment to enhance security and convenience for its users. In fact, today many rivers that used in navigating can not be safe to pass, such as rafting rapids on the Colorado River in Grand Canyon river Jalcomulco United States or in Mexico. Before creating it in rubber boats with a strong range of variants, as now, the rivers are always destroying every boat that passed. However, with increasing quality and technological boats and their equipment, those rivers can now be navigating by commercial travelers hundreds of times each year, even safe for tourists who are not seasoned.

Hunting wild boar in Rogojembangan.

Hunting wild boar in Rogojembangan.

Hunting wild boar on the slopes Rogojembangan has become a tradition for generations of local residents. Hunting traditionally, using a spear, and aided by some hunting dogs. Hunting wild boar at this location, shall not use firearms, or rifles. In the hunt can not be arbitrary time, this tradition has its own rules of hunting schedule, ie every Tuesday Kliwon (day Javanese people). So only one month in the hunt once and 12 times a year. Though females usually bear boar once a year. Pregnant period lasts for 101-130 days, an average of 115 days, with the number of children 2-12 head / birth. Her children breastfed for 4-5 months. At the end of lactation, a female wild boar was able to remarry.
Hunting is just a pest, because pigs are considered pests by locals that the majority work as farmers. there is no intent to eliminate this species, so in my opinion, hunting traditionally wiser than mass slaughter.

Breeding boars began at the age of 6-8 years. In nature, on average, able to survive 10-12 years, but nothing can last up to 20 years.

Activity of wild boar in search of food is usually performed in the afternoon and early morning, ie at 16:00 to 19:00 and 04:00 to 06:00. At 9:00 to 11:00 usually wallow in the mud. Daily roaming boar 5-16 km and usually passes through a fixed path.
Senses are extremely sensitive and very keen to recognize the human scent and a good swimmer.

Locals only controls a small portion of forest growth in pigs, because if too many boars in this area, it will destroy their farmland.
